ABSTRACT
Sugarcane yellow leaf syndrome is caused by sugarcane yellow leaf virus, being a pathogen of economic importance. The disease has been reported to occur in many sugarcane growing area worldwide. Sugarcane yellow leaf virus resides in the phloem of diseased canes. Symptoms of the disease generally appear in maturing plant as a yellowing of the leaf midrib. The disease can be diagnosed by symptoms, RT-PCR, ELISA, TBIA, ISEM, EM or fluorescence microcopy.
Sugarcane yellow leaf syndrome has been present in sugarcane grown at Institute of Sugarcane Research of An Phu; Phu Ly village, Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province; My Thanh Tay village, Duc Hue district, Long An province, Tan An village, Thu Dau Mot town, Binh Duong province.
In plants expressing disease symptom, the vascular bundles presented fluorescence in the phloem while symtomless plants did not have fluorescence.
ScYLV can be detected by the RT-PCR protocol using YLS111 and YLS462 primers.
