Original Solution

Spyraflo Solution

Overview: Customer was using a precision machined bushing that was pressed into a precision hole in the machine frame. The bushing then retained the 0.5" needle roller bearing.

Problems: The precision bush was expensive, and the tolerance build up resulted in the bushing having to be glued in, or an undersized bushing was used. The assembly was time consuming, expensive and ineffective.

Solution: A punched hole replaced the machined hole in the frame. A standard Spyraflo self-clinch, non-align retainer with a 1/2" needle roller bearing mounted in it replaced the precision bushing and the need to install the bearing separately. Clinching the bearing assembly resulted in a secure, shake-proof mounting. The small clinch zone ensured no bearing closure. The customer had a better solution in terms of bearing mounting and size, and also had cost savings on material and labor.

Overview: Customer had a low cost U-section sheet steel chassis that required a single shaft to run between the two vertical faces. The shaft was stepped, making one bearing 0.25" and the mating bearing 0.187". The chassis was stamped out, including the mating holes, and then bent into the U-shape.

Problems: This resulted in the mounting holes always being offest and required extra machining operations and additional assembly tasks.

Solution: Spyraflo self-clinch, self-algin Delrin 0.25" and 0.187" bearings were clinched into the punched holes. The self-clinch option meant the installation was quick, easy and secure. The self-align capability accommodated the offset in the mounting holes and ensured a smooth running shaft every time. This resulted in a better bearing solution, cost savings during assembly and in machining, and a 100% product performance.

Overview: Customer had a requirement for a 0.625" diameter shaft, 36" long shaft, to carry a heavy load while moving very smoothly. The lengthy shaft had to be supported at multiple locations along its length.

Problems: Cost was n issue, and it was necessary to use formed sheet steel mountings along the length of the shaft. This necessitated the requirement for a self-aligning needle roller bearing assembly.

Solution: Spyraflo flange-mounted, self-align 0.625" needle roller bearings were bolted to each individual support. Flange-mount was used for service reasons and to give vertical adjustment. The self-align ability compensated for the lack of perpendicularity on shaft supports. This resulted in enhanced product performance, quick assembly and cost savings.

Overview: Customer wanted to reduce machine costs by using two plastic injection molded side plates in place of steel. The side plates housed bearings for three shafts, which transported paper products.

Problems: Alignment issues became apparent between the side plates, causing the shaft to build and not run smoothly.

Solution: Spyraflo press-fit, self-align 6mm bronze bearings were pressed into the molded holes. The 5° static alignment capability of the bearing resulted in a smooth running shaft and easy assembly every time. This also resulted in cost savings on overall assembly and enhanced performance.
